IAM ready to secure my business (basics)

Oct 19, 2022

Identity and Access Management (IAM), made popular through Microsoft security recommendations and expertise creating TLAs (three letter acronyms), allows a business to deliberately control their users’ digital identities and the privileges those identities have to business assets. Simplified: who has access to what within an organization.

As an IT administrator, you may be asking, “do I effectively track all the things people have access to” or, as a business leader, you may be asking your IT, “who has access to what public or private information inside our organization?”

As often as Microsoft creates TLAs, it also provides solutions for the myriad of questions and problems that arise. Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) allows you to manage user identities and access to your organization’s resources, including applications and services in the cloud. With Azure AD, you can:

  • Create and manage user accounts and groups
  • Control access to applications and services using conditional access policies
  • Set up multi-factor authentication for added security
  • Monitor and audit user activity to detect and prevent potential security threats

Expanding on that value, Azure AD also integrates seamlessly with other Azure functions like Azure Information Protection and Azure Security Center. Microsoft recognizes that businesses need to deploy security in-depth, in-layers and they do it very effectively. At the core to providing multiple layers of security features, like sensitive data actions and real-time threat detection/remediation, is a clear understanding of users, assets, and privileges – which is the exactly what IAM provides when deployed properly.

Implementing these features on your own can be a daunting task. That’s where IMS steps in. As a Managed Service Provider (MSP), we provide expert IT services and support to help you manage and maintain your IT infrastructure, including your IAM solution.

With IMSs IAM service, you can:

  • Get expert guidance on how to set up and configure Azure AD and other related services
  • Leverage our experience to optimize your IAM solution for your specific needs
  • Get support and assistance with any issues or challenges
  • Focus on your core business, knowing that your IAM is in good hands

Partnering with IMS also helps you strike the right balance between security and convenience for your users. With features like multifactor authentication (MFA), single sign-on (SSO), and password-less authentication options, you can make access to your organization’s resources a breeze for your approved users. Additionally, the afore mentioned features also help with your cyber security insurance requirements. MFA further secures access by requiring more than one method of authentication. Followed by SSO, which allows users to log in once (validated twice) and gain access to all the applications and services they are authorized to use, without having to enter separate credentials for each one. Lastly, password-less authentication provides alternative methods (fingerprints or faces) to log in, eliminating the need for cumbersome password management.

If you are looking to implement Azure AD and other Azure IAM services, IMS can assess, guide, support, or implement all aspects. Leverage our expertise in technology – using Microsoft to solve problems. Gain a better understanding of your users and your assets. Let us help you set up and maintain a comprehensive and secure IAM solution.
